Free kick is one of the methods of restarting a game of football, and players have been known to score from these dead ball situations. It requires a lot of skills to score from a free kick, as a wall of defence is normally formed in front of the goal by the defending team. There is one player who has consistently scored from dead ball situations at big occasions for both club and country. He is skillful, pragmatic and lovable both on and off the field of play. He was popularly called "Jay Jay" by fans of the round leather game in Nigeria. An indigene of Delta state in Southern Nigeria, he was a one-time captain of the senior national team the Super Eagles of Nigeria. At the 2004 Nations Cup held in Tunisia, he produced a stunning equalizer against perennial rivals Cameroon via a well taken free kick that left goalkeeper Kameni of Cameroon rooted to the ground. He also produced a similar feat against the desert warrior of Algeria in a World Cup qualifier in 2003 in his debut for the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the National stadium Lagos. The game eventually ended 4-1 in favor of Nigeria. Augustine Okocha replicated his free kick prowess in the colors of English club side Bolton Wanderers F.C, where he scored some stunning free kick that made him one of the favorite stars in the team beside French star Yuri Djorkaff. He was eventually made the captain of the team due to his overall input and unique dribbling skills that kept fans on the edge of their seats. Augustine Okocha who later went on to score some brilliant goals for Bolton Wanderers in his second season with the club, later left for Qatar Sporting Club before later returning during the twilight of his career to help Football League Championship side Hull City to gain promotion to the premiership. Injury and lack of fitness forced him to hang his skillful booths for both club and country in 2006.
